Friday Game Night: SEPTEMBER 13th - 10 GAMES Registered with Room for more!
NOTE: A new games schedule will be posted on this page usually starting on the Tuesday of the week of Friday Game Night, and will be updated as new games are registered up to the afternoon of Friday Game Night.
1.
GAME: The Roads to Manassas: First Battle of Bull Run, July 1861 GENERA: American Civil War HOST: Kevin Aldridge RULES: Bonnie Blue Flag! (home brew) SCALE: 6mm PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 4 SCENARIO: Most miniature battles of Bull Run focus on the slug-trading around Henry House and Bald Hill. In our game we'll embrace the entire operational scenario of the First Bull Run campaign. The tabletop will stretch from Centerville to Mount Pone, and from Sudley Springs to Manassas Junction (12 x 8 miles). McDowell's Union army is free to strike anywhere along the entire length of Bull Run -- but will the Rebels stage a cunning riposte? Players find this system to involve lots of thoughtful, chess-like maneuvering followed by head-banging fights with handfuls of dice! 2. GAME: French and Indian War GENERA: Age of Reason HOST: Tim Balzer RULES: Rebels and Patriots SCALE: 15mm PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 4 SCENARIO: The Enemy of my Enemy. Your army is about to advance through a strategic valley but you need the support of the local neutral First Nations village. Lead a detachment to contact the village with the King's gifts and an offer to become his brave and worthy allies. As you approach, a scout reports that the enemy seems to be attempting to do the same thing. Get to the village first, hope your translator is competent, engage the enemy, and seek honour, glory and promotion. 3. GAME: The Tower of Maraj GENERA: RPG HOST: Mike Pagel RULES: 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons SCALE: 28MM (if figures used) PLAYER SLOTS: 3 - 6 SCENARIO: You’ve been contacted by a young half-elf who seems to have a considerable amount of wealth. He introduced himself as Aldren, and told you of his father’s recent passing. After Maraj’s death, Aldren attempted to claim his belongings, but he found that bandits had already occupied the tower. Being none too keen with a blade or spell, he’s hired you to help retrieve a specific heirloom or possibly clear out the tower, if you are able to do so. Please note that this is an overflow game for if there is only one DnD game being played. If there are two DnD games scheduled this game will not occur. 4. GAME: A Simple Task GENERA: RPG HOST: Graham Acton RULES: DND 5th Edition SCALE: N/A PLAYER SLOTS: 8 or less SCENARIO: The Adventures continue: "Having lost the reliquary, and believing the cultists now have it, the players have headed to the cultists sanctuary, as they approach the sky darkens, bandits flee past them in terror, what will the party face..." 5. GAME: Duel in the Dark GENERA: RPG HOST: Michael Glover RULES: Duel in the Dark &Baby Blitz expansion SCALE: N/A PLAYER SLOTS: 2 (1 opponent needed) SCENARIO: The Adventures continue: This game depicts RAF night bombing raids against Germany. In secret, the RAF selects a single German city and plots the route his bomber stream will take to and from the target. Diversionary raids may also be plotted in hopes of confounding the German player. In addition to the bomber streams, the RAF player also has control of Mosquito squadrons which can be used as night fighters, target markers, ADGB home defence, and airfield and flak suppression. The German player controls five Gruppe of night-fighters (Me 110s, Ju 88s, and He 219s) and tries to guess the British player's intentions in order to position the nightfighters in position to intercept the bomber stream. In addition, the German player also gets to plot attacks against the UK via V1 rockets and a small bombing raid with He-177 Greif bombers. Each player also has a pool of ground based assets that they are free to place in their areas of control. These consist of AA guns, radar sets, smoke generators, rail based AAA, acoustic spotting units, searchlights, fire brigades, bomb shelters, etc. Weather is dynamic and may move during the course of play so the cloud banks the RAF player was counting on to hide their movements might drift before the player reaches them. Fog may hamper German night fighters trying to land, etc. Apart from weather, there is no luck or randomness in this game. It's all down to guile, deduction, bluffing, and skill. 6. GAME: Battle of Wobbly Creek GENERA: WWII Naval HOST: Jonathan Stone RULES: Supremacy at Sea SCALE: 1/2400th PLAYER SLOTS: 8 - 10 SCENARIO: Wobbly Creek? Where is Wobbly Creek? Nobody knows, and that's why there is such a fight over it. British versus Japanese heavy hitters to see who's the last man standing. 7. GAME: Operation Market Garden GENERA: WWII Land HOST: Alex Balmer RULES: GDW Double Blind SCALE: Battalion scale PLAYER SLOTS: 3 - 5 SCENARIO: The 75th anniversary of Market Garden, Sept 1944! We will be running Operation Market Garden, a battalion level double-blind game, adapted to full table size. Players on the Axis side will command the German 15th army, 1st Parachute army and the 2nd SS Korps. On the Allied side the British Aiborne, US 82nd & 101st divisions and British XXX corps, who strive to seize a bridgehead across the Rhine. Will the Allied player stick to the historical drop zones, or try something different? Can The Germans react quick enough to counter Allied moves? The scenario has been improved since Salute, to reduce setup times some airborne drop zones will be pre-plotted by the Allied players. Players are encouraged to arrive 15 - 20 min before 7pm, to finalize initial starting setup. If the full 10 turns (10 days) are not completed Friday, then part 2 will run Saturday evening at 7pm. Players don't need to commit to both sessions. 8. GAME: British Isles Risk Board Game GENERA: Board Game HOST: John Biehl RULES: Risk Variant SCALE: N/A PLAYER SLOTS: 6. We will have 6 players even if if they are not all human (one of my variant rules). SCENARIO: The classic board game played on a map of the British Isles (the variant) & with slightly altered rules (my variant rules). You want a quick game of Risk? This is it. 'There ain't nowhere to hide , baby!' Only twenty-four territories yet it plays well (& fast). 9. GAME: Some cold and bitter knights... HOST: Colin Upton RULES: Lion Rampant SCALE: 28mm PLAYER SLOTS: up to 6 SCENARIO: All feudal affair as Germanic and Scandinavian knights and their retinues (along with their local auxiliaries) fight for control of the Baltic lands! 10. GAME: World War I Air Combat HOST: René Charbonneau RULES: Canvas Eagles SCALE: 1/72nd PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 12 SCENARIO: August 1917, all is quiet on the Western Front, except up in the air. |
