Trumpeters on the Road (TotR)

The Trumpeters on the Road (TotR) is a group of individuals from the ranks of the Trumpeter Society dedicated to increasing the Trumpeter Society's profile within the community.  In the old days of the society the club set up events at local high schools, fairs, malls, and even at the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition).  The purpose of these events was to make the general public awareness of our hobby by putting on demonstration games and to recruit new members into the hobby and our society.  Many of our early members joined our society via these game demonstrations.  This has been a successful endeavour for over 50 years of our society's history.

  GAME
:  Board Game
  HOST:   Michael Pagel
  SCALE:   N/A
  PLAYERS:  3-5
  RULES:   1846
SCENARIO: 1846 - the midwest railroad boom has gone bust, leaving in its wake hundreds of failed local railroads.  Sensing opportunity in the economic vacuum, five large eastern railroads (the New York Central, Erie, Pennsylvania, Baltimore and Ohio, and Grand Trunk out of Canada) seek dominance west of the Alleghenies.  Can you, as a nineteenth century tycoon, knit together these profitable railroads with the midwestern remnants to form the most profitable rail network stretching all the way to Chicago or St. Louis?

NOTES: 1846 is an '18xx' game, one of many games by different designers inspired by Francis Tresham's 1829.  However, 1846 has several unique features, such as its opening draft, variable setup, and a comparatively shorter game length, that are good for players new to 18xx.

VCON 2017 (October 28th/29th)

This year's VCON 2017 convention was held at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel next to Guildford Mall.  This is a large event that allows the Trumpeter Society to be involved in the hobby in a positive way.  This event was headed by Trumpeter Executive President: René Charbonneau.  René Charbonneau, Len Zigante, Wayne Dan, and Eric Hotz were present to play two Sci-Fi games.  The first was a fast play, Sci-Fi tank games that was played twice on Saturday on a 6x6-ft table; this game was played twice on Saturday and on Sunday a Sci-Fi space race game was played.

The main purpose of TotR is to give the Trumpeter Society a presence within British Columbia and Washington Sate, and it accomplishes this by presenting games at the various games conventions, and other venues, by showing the society flag (showing off society posters) and then handing out society brochures and business card ads.  The Sci-Fi games presented at V-Con were well viewed by those who came by the games room and garnished good praise simply because they were attractive games to see and play.

NOTE: TotR is not just limited to the Vancouver area. In 2016 TotR put on a WWI Air Combat demo game at the Airshow in Everett, Washington State, USA in conjunction with the NHMGS.  The best part: TotR members got into the airshow FREE, had FREE parking, FREE food and included FREE entrance to the military museum!  All aircraft and vehicles in the museum and airshow are fully functional examples.
