To liberate the slaves? No, to eliminate the completion! And to do some recreational looting and arson... a play test for Salute 3. GAME: World War I Air GENRE: World War One Air Combat HOST: René Charbonneau SCALE: 1/72nd RULES: Canvas Eagles PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 12 SCENARIO: August 1917 The ground war is in a lull. The struggle in the air is fierce. 4. GAME: Battle of Stalingrad GENRE: World War Two Land Combat HOST: John Atchison SCALE: 15mm RULES: Schwere Kompanie PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 6 Players SCENARIO: Eastern front 1942, the struggle for Stalingrad is raging. Fight for control of the ruined factory district and railyard. Will the German artillery cover your advance or the Luftwaffe clear the way? Will the tenacious Russians close in behind you by using sewer movement or the dreaded T34 show up? Battle in the chaos of the Rattenkrieg. 7. GAME: Last Gasp Of The IJN GENRE: World War Two Naval HOST: Jonathan Stone SCALE: 1/2400th RULES: Supremacy at Sea PLAYER SLOTS: 10 - 12 SCENARIO: October, 1944 and it is time for the Imperial Japanese Navy to prove its devotion to the Emperor and crush the American invasion of the Philippines. A 'best case' situation for the Japanese (no loss of Mutsu and a heaven sent typhoon to cover the approach to the invasion beaches) is offset by Admiral Halsey for once in his career not scuttling off in search of glory. The most massive surface conflict since Jutland is about to begin. 8. GAME: Cthulhu Wars GENRE: Fantasy Horror HOST: Ashton RULES: Cthulhu Wars by Petersen Games PLAYER SLOTS: 3 - 8 players, 30 minutes/player, roughly 2-3 hours SCALE: N/A SCENARIO: Giant plastic horrors and tiny cultists. D6 based combat, dudes on a map, building gates to Doom the Earth. The gates provide energy to pay for the next round and score victory points, in a race to 30 points, but you can't win without your six spell books. These goals/achievements are something you'll need to do on the board, providing new options for each one completed. 9. GAME: 18xx Rail Games GENRE: Board Gaming HOST: Bill Dixon RULES: 1846 PLAYER SLOTS: 5 - 11 SCALE: N/A SCENARIO: 1846 is a good beginners game with enough meat in it for advanced players. 10. GAME: Betrayal At House On The Hill (with Widow's Walk expansion) GENRE: Board Gaming RULES: Betrayal At House On The Hill GAME TYPE: errain-generating card/token, two-phase SCALE: N/A PLAYER SLOTS: 3 - 6 (best with 4 or more) TIME: Anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. SCENARIO: "The front doors of the old 'haunted' house have locked themselves behind you. Is there another way out -- or a way to somewhere else? Explore! Rooms come into existence as you explore, strange things and companions turn up in odd corners, and there are odd happenings. The potential for doom builds... Somewhere along the line, the game changes -- the Haunt spills out! But which Haunt will you face, and who will be the Traitor? Time and chance will tell..." 11. GAME: TUNISIA EARLY '43 GENRE: World War Two Land Combat HOST: Chris Bell RULES: TANKS: THE SKIRMISH GAME - MODIFIED SCALE: 15mm PLAYER SLOTS: 2 - 6 SCENARIO: I read the players gripes about the rules and agreed with them. So I kept the opposed dice rolling, the Tank damage and initiative, CRITICAL DAMAGE CARDS, and modified everything else - as gamers have done thru history. I used my DESERT WAR rules for hitting and my penetration at different ranges for the attack vs defense number of dice to roll off. So the GUNS are not lumped together. |
