GAME: Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905 GENERA: Pre-Dreadnought Naval Warfare HOST: Dennis Chin SCALE: 1:1200th PLAYERS: Up to 8 RULES: Age of the Dreadnought: Armored Ships Come of Age SCENARIO: The Battle of Tsushima Straits - May 27, 1905. In Russia's determination to gain a warm water port on her eastern coast (Vladivostok is not a warm water port), she goes to war with Japan, beginning with her occupation of Port Arthur in Manchuria. After the first defeat of the Russian Pacific fleet by the Japanese in the water outside Port Arthur, Tsar Nicholas II foolishly orders the entire Russian Baltic fleet to sail 18,000 miles from St. Petersburg to engage the Japanese navy. But the exhausted and poorly trained Russians were caught in the fog in the Tsushima Straits in Japan waters. In the battle, the Russia lost 90% of their capital ships with eight battleships (six sunk and two captured) and three armored cruisers sunk. Of the five protected cruisers, two were sunk and three interned. The Japanese only lost 3 torpedo boats. None of their capital ships were sunk. The Russian had 4,830 dead and 5,917 captured. The Japanese only had a mere 117 dead. NOTES: In my presentation of this battle, as described above, there will be changes made (Variant 4) to make the battle more even. 1. Perhaps, Britain has not formed a naval pact with Japan before 1905, thereby the Russian Baltic navy will be allowed to sail thru the Suez Canal, giving the Russian crews more time to engage in ARTILLERY PRACTICE. 2. Perhaps, the neutral countries in South Africa would allow the fleet to dock and receive coal and supplies for the ships. The crew would not be so fatigue and poorly fed. 3. Perhaps, two days before battle, there was a hidden cache discovered in the Flag-ship lockers. The Admiral allows the crew to have supple amounts of vodka, champagne and Russian Caviar. Russian morale is now increased. Let's now see if the Russians can engage the Japanese Imperial Fleet and give them a surprise. ______ 2 GAME: WWII Naval GENERA: WWII Naval Warfare HOST: Jonathan Stone SCALE: 1/2400th PLAYERS: 8 - 10 RULES: Supremacy at Sea SCENARIO: It is the best the Axis can offer in terms of battleships against the monolithic Imperial US Navy in a competition style wargame. ______ 3 GAME: Battletech GENERA: Sci-Fi HOST: Shawn Winstanley SCALE: 1/285th PLAYERS: 2 - 8 RULES: Battletech SCENARIO: Big Stompy robots battling it out ______ 4 GAME: Battletech GENERA: Sci-Fi HOST: Shawn Winstanley SCALE: 1/285th PLAYERS: 2 - 8 RULES: Battletech SCENARIO: Big Stompy robots battling it out ______ 5 GAME: What a Tanker! GENERA: WWII Land Warfare HOSTS: Will Bailie/Craig Murray SCALE: ? PLAYERS: 2 - 6 RULES: Too Fat Lardies SCENARIO: Tank-on-tank action in France, 1940 ______ 6 GAME: 1846 (with new private companies) GENERA: Boardgame HOST: Bill Dixon SCALE: Board Game PLAYERS: 2 - 5 RULES: 18xx SCENARIO: ______ 7 GAME: Age of Sail GENERA: Napoleonic Naval HOST: Steve Allen SCALE: 1/1200th PLAYERS: 4 - 6 RULES: Wooden Ships and Iron Men SCENARIO: TBA ______ 8 GAME: Evolution: Climate HOST: Lisa Smedman SCALE: Board Game PLAYERS: 2 - 6 RULES: Evolution: Climate by NorthStar Games SCENARIO: In this strategy card game, you create species and assign up to four characteristics to each species. As the climate shifts (getting either hotter or colder) you see which of your species can survive. Will your species be herbivores, competing for forage at the communal watering hole -- or will they be predators that consume other players' species? This is a surprisingly deep (yet simple) game with lots to consider and the occasional sudden reversal, should a catastrophic event card come up. Fear the meteorite!!! ______ 9 GAME: Xenos Rampant GENERA: Sci-Fi Skirmish Combat HOST: Ryan Fryr SCALE: 28mm PLAYERS: 4 - 6 RULES: Xenos Rampant SCENARIO: TBA NOTES: Xenos Rampant is a setting agnostic, large skirmish, miniature wargame for fighting science fiction battles using 28mm / 15mm figures. Developed from the popular Lion Rampant ruleset, the core mechanics featured within will be instantly recognisable to those familiar with the other Rampant systems, while still being accessible to new players. Xenos Rampant contains all the rules, army lists, and scenarios required to fight science fiction battles as well as a whole host of sub-genres including: post-apocalyptic, weird war, near future. So, whatever your science fiction preference, the rules can cover it – just let your imagination run rampant. The factions I have are: GZG Outrim Coalition, Alternative Armies Ikwan Uprising, Khurasan miniatures, UFO landing fleet, Alternative Armies Cold Climes, and Mission ______ Happy New Year! We hope you had a Merry Christmas. As you can see this is the start of 2023 and we need games for the upcoming Friday evening. Please sent your game info to: gamesmaster@shaw.ca Please submit your games using the below format: GAME: War of the Roses GENERA: Medieval Combat HOST: Dennis Chin SCALE: 25mm PLAYERS: 2 - 4 RULES: Never Mind the Bill-hooks SCENARIO: The Battle of Basingstoke - another one of the small, insignificant skirmishing battles between the House of Lancaster (Red Rose) and the House of York (White Rose), that is so typical of this complex war in England that lasted 32 years in the 15th Century. It was finally over when that monster of a king, Richard III, is unseated from his horse and butchered to death at the Battle of Bosworth by the victorious army led by Henry of Richmond, who ascends to his rightful claim to the English throne, as Henry Tudor VII. NOTES: Front Rank miniatures will be used.
