As a result, they stage a coup and install a military government. One of the plans, worked out in some detail years before, calls for the invasion of the Dutch East Indies, seizing critical petroleum, rubber and mineral resources while hoping to keep the war limited to Japan and Holland. But when the States General gets wind of Japanese preparations, they cleverly make a deal. In return for extraditing the Kaiser to Britain where he will face a war crimes trial, the British agree to send their Mediterranean Fleet to protect Dutch interests in the Far East. The stage is set for an Anglo-Japanese naval clash. The Americans, delighted that their two major naval rivals are about to go at each other, put on the popcorn and settle down to watch. _______ 5.
